Team and roles

Invite teammates by email, choose between Admin and Member, and change someone's role later.

Reveal has two roles, Admin and Member. Everyone you invite gets one of them, and you can change it afterwards without re-inviting.

Your team lives in Settings, then Team.

Inviting a teammate

1. Enter their email address

In the Invite a teammate card, type the email address you want the invitation to go to. Use the address they will actually sign in with.

2. Pick a role

Choose Admin or Member in the role selector next to the email field. The app states the difference under the card: "Admin can manage workspace & billing · Member can create and edit guides".

3. Send it

Click Invite. The app notes that "Invited users get an email with a link to join this workspace", so nothing else is needed from you. They click the link, sign in, and land in this workspace.

Note. An invitation is tied to the workspace you are currently in. If you run more than one workspace and you want someone in both, invite them from each one. Check the workspace switcher at the top of the sidebar before you send.

What each role can do

Admin can manage the workspace and billing. That covers everything in Settings, including workspace name and logo, the team list, integrations, billing, and the Danger zone.

Member can create and edit guides. That is the day to day work: recording in Reveal for Chrome, editing steps, publishing, setting behaviour on a guide, and reading analytics.

Both roles work in the same workspace and see the same guides. The difference is control over the workspace itself.

Who should be an Admin

Keep the Admin list short. A practical rule is two or three Admins in a small team: whoever owns billing, and one other person so you are not locked out if the first is on holiday.

Give Admin to anyone who needs to invite people, change the workspace URL, or handle payment. Leave everyone else as a Member, since recording, editing and publishing guides needs nothing more than that.

Bear in mind that Admin also unlocks the Danger zone, which includes deleting every guide in the workspace and deleting the workspace itself. That alone is a good reason not to hand it out by default.

The Members table

The Members table lists everyone who has joined the workspace. Each row shows:

  • Avatar. Their profile photo, or their initials if they have not uploaded one.

  • Name. Their full name from their account profile. Your own row carries a You chip so you can spot yourself quickly.

  • Email. The address they signed up with and where their notifications go.

  • Joined. The date they accepted the invitation, shown as Joined {date}.

  • Role. A role switcher, described below.

Changing someone's role

The role switcher sits inline on each member's row. Change it there and the new role applies to that person in this workspace.

Promote a Member to Admin when they take on billing or need to manage the team. Move an Admin back to Member when they no longer do, which is the safer default.

Heads up. Do not remove your own Admin access unless someone else in the workspace already has it. Only an Admin can manage the team, so a workspace with no Admin cannot invite anyone or fix its own settings.
