Install Reveal for Chrome

Add the extension, grant three permissions, and confirm the dashboard sees it.

Recording happens in the browser extension, so this is the first thing to set up. It takes about a minute.

1. Install from the Chrome Web Store

In the dashboard, go to Settings, then Extension, and click Install extension. That opens the Reveal listing in the Chrome Web Store. Click Add to Chrome and confirm.

You can also reach it from the extension card at the bottom of the sidebar, on any page.

2. Pin it to your toolbar

Click the puzzle piece icon in Chrome's toolbar, find Reveal, and click the pin. You'll be opening it often enough that hunting for it gets old.

3. Grant the permissions

Open your product in Chrome, then open the extension. The first time you switch the camera on, Chrome asks whether Reveal Guide Recorder can use your cameras and microphones. It shows a preview and a device picker so you can confirm you're pointing at the right ones.

Choose Allow while visiting the site. Allow this time works, but you'll be answering the same prompt on every recording.

Reveal needs three things:

  • DOM access. Required. This is how Reveal reads the element you click so it can target the same element later when the guide plays.

  • Camera. Required for the camera bubble. Without it you get a screen recording with no face, which is most of the point gone.

  • Mic. Optional, but you almost certainly want it. Reveal records audio through a microphone you choose, separately from the camera stream, so you can point it at a good mic instead of your webcam.

4. Check the connection

Back in the dashboard, go to Settings, then Extension. You should see Reveal for Chrome, a Connected chip, the version number, and when it was last seen.

Each permission shows its own state next to it. Anything still showing pending hasn't been granted yet.

Note. The sidebar card also shows the extension's connection state on every page, so you can tell at a glance whether Reveal can record right now.

If it says pending

Chrome grants camera and mic per site, and it only asks once. If a permission is stuck on pending, click the padlock or the sliders icon on the left of Chrome's address bar while you're on your product, and set Camera and Microphone to Allow. Then reload the page and reopen the extension.

If DOM access is the one that's pending, check that the extension is enabled for the site you're on at chrome://extensions.
