Get started

Quickstart

Create a guide, record it, install the pixel, and get your first onboarding video live.

This is the whole path, from an empty workspace to a guide running on your site. Give it about twenty minutes, most of which is you talking.

1. Install Reveal for Chrome

Go to Settings, then Extension, and click Install extension. Add it from the Chrome Web Store and pin it to your toolbar.

Come back to Settings, Extension and check that it says Connected.

2. Create the guide

Click New guide from the dashboard, or Record new guide from the Guides page.

Three fields. Title pre-fills with the page you're on, so change it to something a teammate would recognise. Description is for you, not your users. Domains is the important one: the pixel only serves this guide on the domains you list here. Type each one and press Enter.

Wildcards work. *.acme.com covers every subdomain, and * matches any site.

Click Create guide. It lands in Guides as a draft with zero steps.

3. Record it

Open your product in Chrome and click the Reveal extension in your toolbar.

Turn your camera on and pick your mic. The first time, Chrome asks for permission: choose Allow while visiting the site. Then hit Start recording.

If Personal intro is on, you get a countdown and then a large centred camera bubble. Say hello, explain what the guide covers, and click Finish Intro when you're done.

Now the walkthrough starts. Talk about what the user should do next, then click the thing you were talking about. That click ends the step and starts the next one. The banner at the bottom says "Recording, click anywhere to capture a step", which is exactly how it works.

Aim for five to eight steps the first time. Long guides are where completion rates go to die.

How recording works

4. Check it in the dashboard

Open the guide from Guides. You land on Overview, with the step list under the funnel.

Look at the Issues tab now. It runs the same checks the pixel runs when it loads, so it tells you exactly what stands between this guide and going live.

5. Install the pixel

On the Embed tab, copy the snippet from the Pixel installation card and paste it into your site's <head>.

<!-- Reveal pixel -->

<script defer src="https://embed.reveal.software/pixel.js"

data-workspace="acme"

data-key="wk_xxxxxxxx_xxxxxxxx_live"></script>

You install this once for the whole workspace. Every guide and checklist you ever publish runs through it.

6. Decide when it fires

Open the Behavior tab and set the trigger, the audience, and how the guide behaves when someone dismisses it.

Sensible defaults for a first onboarding guide: trigger Auto · on page load, audience New users, on skip Show again next session, frequency cap Once.

Click Save changes. This tab does not save on its own.

7. Publish

Back at the top of the guide, click Publish. The chip flips from Draft to Published and the guide becomes eligible to fire.

A guide with no steps can't be published, which is the check that catches most first attempts.

8. Watch it work

Load your site as a new user would and the guide should appear. The Embed tab shows live diagnostics: which domains the pixel has been seen on, pageviews today, and how many people are mid-guide right now.

Give it a day of traffic, then open Overview. Completion, the step funnel, and any ratings will be waiting.

If nothing appears

Open the guide's Issues tab first. It catches the three things that go wrong most often: the guide is still a draft, it has no steps, or the pixel hasn't been seen on your site yet.

If all three are clear and it still isn't firing, troubleshooting goes deeper.
